The international adoption arena can feel just like
that...an arena.  My office is a law firm and not an
adoption agency nor are we involved in the placement of
children for adoption.  Rather we handle all the legal
aspects of finalizing adoptions.

My office works in 4 areas with international adoption:

1)
AGENCY -Work with agencies to receive their Hague
Accreditation.  The Hague Convention is for the
prevention of selling, trafficking, and exploitation of
children.  A multilateral treaty that provides a framework
of safeguards for protecting children and families
involved in intercountry adoption.

2
) Adoption Consulting with prospective Adoptive
Parent
s (aka PAPS) to offer legal advice on the choice
of countries, agencies, and filing of  a Dossier,
I600-A....we are there with our clients from start to
completion.

3)
IMMIGRATION Assistance with Immigration and
Home Land Security.

4)
RE-ADOPTION once the child is home and living in
Mississippi

          INTERNATIONAL ADOPTION
United States Intercountry Adoption
Facts

Intercountry adoption is increasing.  Over the
last decade, the number of intercountry
adoptions to the U.S. has more than doubled.

From October 2004 - September 2005 (FY
2005) US citizens adopted 22,739 orphans from
around the world.  Of these intercountry
adoptions, 13,241 were from countries that have
joined the Convention.

Top 10 Convention Countries from which U.S.
Citizens adopted in FY 2005:

1. China                 7,906
2. Guatemala *       3783
3. India                      322
4. Colombia               291
5. Philippines             271
6. Mexico                     88
7. Poland                     73
8. Thailand                   72
9. Brazil                        66
10. Moldova                 54

*Although Guatemala is a party to the
Convention, its adoption procedures do not
meet the standards of the Convention.
Q: People often ask me what is the best country to adopt from?

A: The answer is there is not one. Adoption is a personal and family
process.  Whether you and your family choose domestic or inter-country
adoption, the decision will be based on unique reasons.  Some people look
at their family history and find a richness of connections in countries abroad
from the family tree.  Others have an interest in particular cultures and are
drawn to political issues in a country, (i.e. an infant girl abandoned in China).

This is a time for pursuing your dreams and educating yourselves. You can
make it happen!
